Butterfly Valley

Butterfly Valley

When I first met Giray, he was the first Turkish person I had met so, naturally, okay maybe not naturally, I knew close to nothing about Turkey. I had this idea that Turkey was a hot, dry and rocky terrain, nothing like what Giray would describe. He would tell me about the different seas, how amazing the seafood and really all food was, the beautiful mountains and this one magical place they call Butterfly Valley. Cliffs, butterflies everywhere, turquoise waters all tucked in a corner of Turkey not many people visited is how he described this place, I mean the name alone, Butterfly Valley, gives it a magical feel. Ever since then, we talked about how we would one day go and visit this little piece of heaven and we finally made it! We took a short 20 minute boat ride from Oludeniz beach to Butterfly Valley. How convenient! haha. When we arrived, there wasn't a dock for the boat to stop and it couldn't get close enough to the beach so we had to jump off the boat and swim a few yards. SWIM. Giray and I do NOT know how to swim. haha. It's bananas, I know. So we had to wear these huge lifejackets which made it that much more difficult to get to shore. Anyway, once we finally made it onto the beach I realized my phone and camera were both still on the boat. NOOoooo! I mean, I suppose it was a good thing being that phone and camera are not water proof, haha, but I couldn't take any photos there :(

Luckily, I was able to snap a few photos of Butterfly Valley while still on the boat.

unnamed-2There were several people camping on the beach which was pretty cool. I wish Giray and I had thought to bring a Tent and supplies, even though we aren't very good campers, lol.

We just like showers way too much, haha. Although, considering we're here, in such a beautiful place, I really don't think we would've cared very much for a nice cold shower...maybe.

(below) On route to Butterfly Valley. YAY!

My hat is from J.Crew, which is still available for purchase here and Giray's polka dot swim trunks are from J.Crew too but are no longer available, similar ones here .
